ROUND 12 - SUNDAY 28th JUNE 2009
Fulham United 6 : 2 Sturt Marion
GS: Racheal Quigley 4, Tanya Harrison, Lilly Rydon

This weekend’s match saw the return of Fulham Striker Racheal Quigley, and also Lilly Rydon and Claire Eglington who both recovered from injuries. Sturt Marion were without their number one goal keeper Sian Maclaren who was on national duty with the Young Matildas.

During the first half Fulham looked to have more chances on goal compared to Sturt. Their attacking line up lead by Quigley, Rydon, and Tanya Harrison put the opposition on the back foot often. Within 10 minutes Quigley was able to start the scoring ball rolling and easily placed a shot past the young Sturt keeper.

15 minutes later, T. Harrison pulled out some typical ‘Harry’ moves and dribbled past a few Sturt defenders to increase Fulham’s lead. It looked to be Fulham’s day at Collins Reserve when Rydon was also able to get her name on the score sheet after a very tightly angled shot which floated over the opposition keeper.

Half time: Fulham United 3 – 0 Sturt Marion

Sturt Marion made a few necessary changes during the break, replacing their keeper due to a concussion sustained in the first half after a collision with the goal post. From the restart Fulham continued to press the Sturt defence and Quigley again found the back of the net with a well timed shot.

Sturt Marion were awarded a penalty after an altercation between one of their strikers and a Fulham defender. Sharon Black stepped up to take the spot kick. Although it was not the prettiest penalty, it still managed to find the back of the net.

This goal boosted the confidence of the Sturt camp, but Fulham were not going to let anything get in their way. Minutes later Quigley found herself at the end of a great through ball, taking a simple touch and slotting past the keeper once more to get her hat-trick.

All credit to Sturt, they did not give up and were able to score another goal to close the gap in the score line. However that score line didn’t hold for too long. A great corner taken by Chichi May towards the back post found the head of Quigley who redirected the ball towards the top left corner of the goal. Celebrations increased on the Fulham bench!

Full time: Fulham United 6 – 2 Sturt Marion

A great performance by the Fulham squad with signs indicating that they will become an even more competitive force this season and hope to make the top 5. Next week the team take on Cumberland United away from home.

ROUND 11 - FRIDAY 19th JUNE 2009

ROUND 10 - SUNDAY 14th JUNE 2009
Fulham United 1 : 2 Adelaide City
GS: Renee Harrison

Round 10 of Season 2009 saw the always anticipated clash between rivals Fulham United and Adelaide City. The last meeting between the two black and white clubs in Round 3 produced a tight 1-1 draw. Fulham were without midfielder Lilly Rydon due to injury whilst City looked to field their strongest side.

The first half was fairly even for the majority, and early signs showed that this game would be a nail biter. The game was unfortunately cut short for midfielder Claire Eglington who injured her hamstring during the first minute of the game.

With 5 minutes left in the game Renee Harrison was involved in a collision on the field and was stretchered off. This gave City a bit more confidence to pursue their attack. With 2 minutes left in the game there was a scramble in City’s attacking 18 yard box which the Fulham girls could not clear away. City were able to eventually find the back of the net and snatch all 3 points.

Full Time: Fulham United 1 – 2 Adelaide City

It was a hard fought match by the Fulham ladies and to have the game taken away during the last few minutes was devastating for them. The team take on Adelaide Olympic on Friday night at SANTOS Stadium, KO 8pm, in the Adelaide Airport Match of the Month.

ROUND 9 - SUNDAY 31st MAY 2009
Fulham United 1 : 0 Para Hills Knights
GS: Louise Tiani

Fulham United were seeking their second win of the season against Para Hills in Round 9 of the Adelaide Airport Premier Division League.

The match kicked off with Fulham keeping most of the possession. Midway through the half, Louise Tiani managed to hit a chipped shot over the Para Hills keeper and into the back of the net.

Para Hills did not look very threatening for the remainder of the first half. Fulham had a few half chances via Lilly Rydon and Tanya Harrison but could not convert.

Half time: Fulham United 1 – 0 Para Hills

Para Hills came out a little stronger in the second half. A few breaks into their attack almost paid off, but it was the experienced goal keeping by Leanne Gubbins and solid defending by Chi Chi May and Bianca Morgillo that denied them.

10 minutes from the final whistle, Para Hills looked very threatening and were unlucky to gain an equaliser. However Fulham’s defence did will to keep the clean sheet.

Full Time: Fulham United 1 – Para Hills 0

Another close game for the Fulham ladies but at the end of the day it was the 3 points that were needed. Next Sunday, they take on Cumberland United in Round 2 of the Adelaide Airport Premier Division Cup at Collins Reserve.

ROUND 8 - SUNDAY 24th MAY 2009
Fulham United 0 : 3 MUWFC Magic

Fulham United were coming off a great first win of the season last weekend against Campbelltown City and hoped to add another 3 points to climb the ladder. Metro had been strong all season and would make it a very tough challenge. Fulham welcomed back Erin Sutherland-Evans to the squad after returning from her College duties in the US for 3 months.

The first half was dominated by Metro Magic who kept possession of the ball and looked like they were there to compete. 15 minutes into the game Metro were awarded a corner which was driven low and hard towards front post. The ball skipped past all of the Fulham players and bounced off a Metro player into the goal.

10 minutes later, a lack of pressure to close down a Metro midfielder outside the box gave them time to hit a first time shot with was placed perfectly into the top left hand corner. It was not the desired start for the Fulham ladies, already 2-0 down with 25 minutes left in the first half.

Fulham had a couple of rare chances to test the Metro keeper through striker Sarah Baker but were unsuccessful.

A few minutes before half time, Metro made a quick attack down the right side of the field. A cross was whipped into the back post where an unmarked Metro midfielder was patiently waiting to tap the ball into the net.

Half time: Fulham United 0 – 3 MUWFC Magic

It was always going to be a tough ask for the Fulham ladies to make a miracle come back in the second half, but the ladies came out much stronger and wanted to prove a point.

Possession was slightly more even between the two sides and Fulham were able to create a few more chances in attack. Metro still persisted with their forward play but some solid defending by Bianca ‘Reddy’ Morgillo and her side kicks helped keep them scoreless for the half.

Full Time: Fulham United 0 – 3 MUWFC Magic

Although Fulham improved their performance in the second half, it was already far too late to make a change in the final score line. It's back to the drawing board for Fulham United who will play Para Hills in Round 9 this coming Sunday at Collins Reserve. A solid week of training will hopefully contribute to a much needed win.

ROUND 7 - SUNDAY 17th MAY 2009
Campbelltown City 0 : 4 Fulham United
GS: Lilly Rydon, Bianca Morgillo, Renee Harrison, Tanya Harrison

After a great week on the training track, the Fulham ladies felt very ready to get back the pride that had been lost over the last few weeks. With captain Chichi May returning from injury and vice captain Leanne Gubbins back in goals, the squad would definitely be boosted.

From the kick off Fulham looked to be sharper and hungrier for the ball and the win. Within 10 minutes some creative play by youngster Andi Dimkou found the foot of Lilly Rydon who struck a sweet shot from just inside the 18 yard box to give Fulham the lead and give them a great start to the game!

Campbelltown's attacking force did not really test the Fulham defence too often, but showed some glimpses of good play through their striker Georgia Macri. She was met with some great goal keeping by Gubbins and did not have good look in at goal.

Midway through the half, a scramble in the box after a corner eventually found the head of Bianca Morgillo who tapped in Fulham’s second goal.

From there Fulham had all the possession and created many opportunities through the midfield and defensive lines. Another Fulham corner was taken and yet another scramble in the box ensued. After a few desperate attempts to tap the ball into the goal, Renee Harrison managed to make good contact with the ball and furthered the lead to 3-0.

Half Time: Campbelltown City 0 – 3 Fulham United

After the break, Fulham looked like they would run away with the game. Campbelltown still had a few chances at goal, but nothing that worried the Fulham camp. A fantastic through ball by Rydon to striker Tanya Harrison made it an easy finish for little ‘Harry’.

There was no way the Fulham ladies were going to let this game get away. Fulham continued to press the Campbelltown defence right until the final whistle with some narrow misses on goal by Claire Eglington and Tanya Harrison.

Full Time: Campbelltown City 0 – 4 Fulham United

Fulham enjoyed their first comfortable and convincing win of the season and hope to keep making forward strides next week against rivals MUWFC Magic at Collins Reserve.

ROUND 6 - SUNDAY 10th MAY 2009
Fulham United 3 : 3 Cumberland United
GS: Tanya Harrison, Cassie Tsoumbris, Tiffany Winn

Round 6 saw Fulham United up against a young but talented Cumberland United squad. They welcomed back former club player Sarah Baker to the ranks after a few years out of the game.

The first half started off very quietly for both sides with possession kept very even. Fulham were able to make some good play in the midfield, but nothing that really created chances at goal. Towards the end of the first half, Cumberland made the most of one of their chances in front of goal, playing the ball around at the top of the 18 yard box before a Cumberland player was able to casually loft the ball over the Fulham defence into an open goal.

Four minutes from the break, Fulham were dealt a blow when midfielder Alana Marks suffered a serious knee injury and was not able to continue in the game.

Half time: Fulham United 0 – 1 Cumberland United

Both teams looked a lot more alive during the second half. The injury to Marks may have been the spark the Fulham girls needed to lift their game. 20 minutes into the half, Fulham were awarded a free kick on the edge of the 18 yard box. Tanya Harrison whipped the ball towards the front post, the Cumberland keeper fumbled the save, and Cassie Tsoumbris was able to collect the crumbs and equalise.

Soon after Cumberland were able to break through the Fulham defence and create a one on one opportunity with goal keeper Renee Harrison. A comfortable finish from the Cougars saw them regain their lead.

Fulham were not going to lay down and die and were determined to get back on level terms. They moved the ball around well at the top of the 18 yard box, and the ball eventually found the foot of Tiffany Winn who superbly volleyed it into the goal.

The Cumberland girls were also not going to let this game get away easily and were continually pressuring the Fulham defenders. Again they were able to break through and find the back of the net to take the lead for the third time..

This fired up the Fulham ladies once more. Some desperate efforts to keep the ball in play by Leanne Gubbins and some great combination play lead to a Tanya Harrison goal. Celebrations all around for the Fulham camp.

Fulham had the last roll of the dice after being given a penalty for a bad tackle in the box by a Cumberland defender. Tanya Harrison took responsibility and stepped up to the spot but unfortunately the kick went high and wide of the goal.

In the last minute a long goal kick from Renee Harrison dropped past the half way line, bounced over the Cumberland defenders and fell to the feet of Baker. However a last ditch effort on goal slipped past the post and out of play.

Full Time: Fulham United 3 – 3 Cumberland United

Although the Fulham United ladies were not able to get the 3 points for a win this week, the effort by all team members gave a small glimpse of the ability of this squad. A win is only just around the corner!

ROUND 5 - SUNDAY 3rd MAY 2009
Sturt Marion 2 : 0 Fulham United

Spirits were high as the Fulham United ladies headed south for their game against Sturt Marion. Sturt's line up included 3 Adelaide United players in Kristen Swaffer, Sharon Black and Sian McLaren. Fulham were without defender Bianca Morgillo (Suspended) and Lilly Rydon however welcomed back the services of Reserves goal keeper Tash Berry.

The first half was packed full of action from both sides and it could be seen by all that this match would be an entertaining one. Fulham’s forwards Louise Tiani and Kat Gounas broke through the Sturt defence on a few occasions narrowly missing their shots on goal. At the other end of the field Sturt produced a few chances of their own, hitting the woodwork a couple of times and also forcing goal keeper Berry to pull off some fantastic shot saves.

Half time: Sturt Marion 0 – 0 Fulham United

The second half was twice as exciting as the first. A long ball from the Fulham defence found Tiani who was able to use her pace to get past the Sturt defence and clear through on goal. Realising she was in trouble, the Sturt keeper sprinted out of the box to close down the young striker. Instead of going for the ball she collected the legs of Tiani which saw the referee award Fulham a free kick and questionable yellow card to the Sturt keeper when a red would have been more appropriate.

Mid way through the half Sturt were given a free kick just outside the 18 yard box. They were able to convert the set play which gave them the lead. 5 minutes from the end of the game Sturt were awarded a penalty and Black made no mistake in finishing it off.

Full time: Sturt Marion 2 – 0 Fulham United

It was a heart breaking loss for the Fulham ladies who played one of their best games for the season to date. Nothing more could have been asked of the girls. They take on Sturt Marion again this Monday in Round 1 of the Cup, and meet Cumberland United next Sunday in Round 6.

ROUND 4 - SUNDAY 26th APRIL 2009
Fulham United 1 : 3 Adelaide Olympic
GS: Ceryce Guerra

With many positives coming from last week's draw against Adelaide City, Fulham United was looking to keep the improvements going and come away with their first win of the season. Lilly Rydon returned to the starting line up however the team had to deal with the loss of Chichi May due to a knee injury sustained the week before. They were also happy to welcome back striker Ceryce Guerra to the squad.

It was another slow start for the Fulham ladies with only a hand full of attacks towards goal and none that really tested the opposition goal keeper. Olympic looked to be playing slightly sharper than United, and it was only going to be a matter of time before they would capitalise. An Olympic forward was able to break through Fulham’s defensive and create a 1v1 with stand in goal keeper Renee Harrison, who tried to close down the angle, but the ball was placed well enough to find the back of the net.

30 minutes into the half another break by the Olympic attack lead to a desperate tackle by defender Bianca Morgillo in the penalty box. It was met with a red card by the referee due to being the last defender and a tackle from behind. Katrina Bexis stepped up to challenge Renee Harrison but her shot went sailing over the cross bar. Unfortunately the referee called for the penalty to be retaken as a Fulham player had stepped into the box before the penalty was taken. Bexis was not going to make the same mistake twice, hitting the ball hard into the bottom right corner.

Half time: Fulham United 0 – 2 Adelaide Olympic

The start of the second half looked very promising for the Fulham side as the team talk by coach Max Primaro must have sparked a few players. With-in minutes, Guerra used her speed to dribble the ball down the right side of the field and hit a shot at a very tight angle. Some relief for the Fulham crew as the ball went over the goal line and the game back on.

Olympic did not seem as dominant as they were in the first half and Fulham increased their attacking intent. Another goal for Fulham would keep them in the game and one for Olympic would seal the deal for the visitors. A late scramble in Fulham’s defensive box did not fall to their favour. The ball found the feet of an Olympic player who was then able to make the tap in.

Full time: Fulham United 1 – 3 Adelaide Olympic

With Fulham lingering at the bottom of the Premier League table, a position the 4 time league champions have never experienced before, they will have to face Season 2008 league winners Sturt Marion at Marion Sports Complex in Round 5.

ROUND 3 - SUNDAY 19th APRIL 2009
Adelaide City 1 : 1 Fulham United
GS: Tanya Harrison

A much needed win was required for Fulham United after a big loss to Campbelltown City in Round Two. Adelaide City were yet to drop a game and out to keep their undefeated record, but if previous match ups between these two teams were anything to go by, it was always going to be a close and exciting contest.

Play during the first half was distributed evenly between both sides. City had some great attacking play which gave the Fulham defenders some work to do, but the Fulham attackers hit back just as hard getting some opportunities at goal though Tanya Harrison, Louise Tiani, and Dani De Bono.

City’s talented striker, Sandra Scalzi, was able to execute some worrying shots at goal but the experienced Emma Wirkus was able to make some excellent saves to keep the score even until the break. However Fulham were hit with a huge blow with Chichi May obtaining a knee injury just before half time.

Half Time: Adelaide City 0 – 0 Fulham United

A few minutes into the second half an error of judgment by a Fulham defender lead to a penalty being awarded to Adelaide City. Wirkus was able to save the initial shot, but City were able to collect the rebound and put it in the back of the net.

Being a goal behind did not dampen Fulham’s spirit. The ladies lifted and managed to create some chances of their own in an attempt to tie the game. 20 minutes from the final whistle, a great through ball from De Bono on the right side of the field found a lingering Tanya Harrison in the box. With a City player on her shoulder and the keeper ahead she placed the ball in the right bottom corner of the goal to level the scores.

The last 15 minutes was a nail biter with great end to end play by both sides but both were able to hold their own and not give anything up.

The draw gave Fulham their first points of the season for 2009. Next week they take on Adelaide Olympic at Collins Reserve.

ROUND 2 - SUNDAY 5th APRIL 2009
Fulham United 1 : 2 Campbelltown City
GS: Louise Tiani

With a 2-0 loss to MUWFC Magic last weekend, Fulham United were seeking to get their first win and points of the season against a young Campbelltown City team. Head coach Max Primaro was faced with some forced changes to the starting line up due to the unavailability of key players Emma Wirkus (national team duty), Cassie Tsoumbris and Leanne Gubbins (injured), and Chichi May. This saw the promotion of reserves goalkeeper Tash Berry.

The game started off slightly scrappy by both sides. Eventually Fulham were able to find their feet with some great combination play. At the 14th minute, Tiffany Winn was able to get a left footed cross into the box which found the foot of a well positioned Louise Tiani to open the scoring.

Fulham dominated the play for the majority of the first half with play makers Tanya Harrison and Lilly Rydon consistently feeding the ball through to the strikers. Fulham almost furthered their lead with a great through ball to Donna Frost who was able to out run the Campbelltown defence and get a shot off. Unfortunately it went sailing over the cross bar.

Half time: Fulham United 1 – 0 Campbelltown City

After the half time break Fulham were determined to increase their lead but Campbelltown did not back down. The Fulham defence found themselves with unexpected pressure from the opposition forwards and midfielders. On one occasion, Fulham were not quick enough to close down a long range shot by a Campbelltown midfielder who was able to convert and level the game.

With Campbelltown's confidence lifted, Fulham was finding it more difficult to score. A foul committed by a Fulham defender just outside the 18 yard box gave Campbelltown a chance to get ahead. The free kick found the back of the net to put the visitors into the lead.

With time running out Fulham lifted and were able to create a few chances in the attacking third. Some excellent saves by Berry prevented Campbelltown from extending their league. Another chance for Fulham went lingering as a scramble in the box led the ball to the foot of Winn who sprayed an open shot at goal wide and with that went Fulham's last chance to draw the game.

Next round is a tough away clash with the so far undefeated Adelaide City.

ROUND 1 - SUNDAY 29th MARCH 2009
MUWFC Magic 2 : 0 Fulham United

Season 2009 for Fulham United Women’s Premier team began just like previous seasons, with a tough Round One match against last season’s cup winners, Metro Magic.

With the departure of a few players from last season's squad Head Coach Max Primaro was able to introduce some new players into Fulham colours; Lilly Rydon and Emma Wirkus (SASI Squad members), Bianca Morgillo (Adelaide City) and Cassie Tsoumbris (Para Hills). Former Fulham players Chichi May and Alana Marks also returned to the club.

The first 25 minutes saw Fulham United looking to find their feet, getting used to playing alongside some new faces and playing in unfamiliar positions. Metro were able to take advantage of the situation and scored the first goal of the match with midfielder Donna Cockayne putting the ball away at the back post.

In the final 20 minutes of the half, Fulham began making some combination plays through centre midfielder Tanya Harrison and creating a few odd chances which were unfortunately not able to be put away. Keeper Wirkus was kept busy at the other end making some remarkable saves to deny Metro a second goal.

Half time: Metro 1 – 0 Fulham

After the break Fulham looked to come out with more force, keeping good possession and putting the Metro defenders under increased pressure. The Fulham defence also stood strong under command of May, and as a group continually make it difficult for the opposition to further their lead.

Mid way through the second half Metro had a shot from outside the box which was brilliantly saved by Wirkus. But the loose ball created a scramble at the top of the 6 yard box and a Metro forward was able to get a toe to the ball and put it into the net.

Although 2-0 down Fulham did not give up and still pressed to close the gap. The introduction of young substitutes put the pressure on up front and Fulham were able to put Metro on the back foot a few times. However time ran out and the game finished up 2-0 in favour of Metro.
